John Francis Ingersoll (1862-1940) was a 41-year veteran of the U.S. Lighthouse Service. He began at Point Arena Lighthouse (1888-1889) shortly after his marriage to Katherine Nelson, sister to keeper Peter C. Nelson. After a short stint at Point Reyes Light (1889-1890), he worked with his brother-in-law at Point Sur Lighthouse (1890-1901) for a decade before transferring to Point Bonita Light (1901-1929) for 28 years until the close of his career.
