Virginia’s 1806 New Point Comfort Lighthouse as it appeared in 1885. The lighthouse was automated in 1919 and its keeper was removed. The care of the beacon in the tower was then assigned to lamplighter Henry Luther Dow who held that job until 1954. In 1920, the keeper’s house was sold for scrap and demolished.
