Although the year of 1923 was written on the back of this photo of the Indiana Harbor East Breakwater Lighthouse in East Chicago, Indiana, the year may not be correct. The image shows three women in long dresses and two men standing on the second exterior deck of the lighthouse. The flag is proudly waving in the wind and the curtains are closed in the lantern, indicating that the Fresnel lens was in place. The boat tied to the crib of the structure has the lettering USLHS 138, indicating that the boat belonged to the United States Light House Service. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
