Lighthouse keeper Almon Mitchell is shown here with his son Theodore “Ted” who was one of the sixteen children whom he fathered. The names of the other children were Nettie, Elizabeth Edna, Lilla Ruby, Adella Beulah, Frank Ellis, Myrtle Edith, Alfreda Maude, Rose Florence, Carrie Emma, Bertha Mae, John Shirreff, Elmer Ray, Ida Ella and Bettie. Of those, we know that two of the children died very young, Ida Ella at one year old and Alfreda, who died at 6 years old of the croup.
