Photo Caption:

This circa 1891 photo of the Cape Arago Light Station shows keeper Thomas Wyman’s daughter Mary in the tramway box (left circle) crossing the cable high above the washed out remains of the low bridge (center circle) to the cable winch house (right circle) on the opposite shore. It was this tramway box that broke from the cable in 1898 with Mary, Thomas, and two other passengers aboard. (Courtesy of Stephen Dow Beckham)
