Ira Albee was the keeper of the entrance range lights at Coos Bay, starting in 1907. His son, Thomas Wyman Albee, was helping to service the lights and witnessed his father’s tragic death in 1912. He took over his father’s post at the lights until 1918 when he became an assistant at Destruction Island Lighthouse in Washington. This 1937 photo shows the lighthouse tender Iris near one of the Coos Bay range lights. (Courtesy of Stephen Dow Beckham)
