In April of 2010, Paul J. Baptiste mailed this photo to us saying that it appeared in a York, Maine newspaper with no names, just three people looking at “Nubble” Lighthouse. Paul wrote, “What I see is a retired Coastguardsman and former lighthouse keeper with his wife and one of his daughters still dreaming of the good old days – polishing brass, filling the oil tanks for the light, and winding up the weights. All gone on the future lights.” Here at Lighthouse Digest, we say thanks to Paul and Helen Baptiste for the legacy that that they left us. May we never forget the sacrifices that he and so many other lighthouses keepers and their families made for the benefit of others.
