The Cherrystone Bar Lighthouse in Cape Charles Harbor Virginia, shown here, is where Clarence W. Salter served as the keeper from 1912 to 1913. The lighthouse had two separate lives before it was destroyed. In 1919, the Cherrystone Bar Lighthouse was deactivated, and brought to Cape Charles where it remained in storage until the following year when it was moved to replace the Choptank River Lighthouse near Oxford, Maryland that had been destroyed by ice, thus becoming the second Choptank River Lighthouse. It served until 1964 when it was no longer needed and demolished by the government. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
