This 1923 official U.S. Navy aerial view shows the San Juan, Puerto Rico District 9 Lighthouse Depot on the bottom right-hand side of the peninsula. Many buoys are laid out and it appears that the lighthouse tender Lilac is docked at the pier. Dillon served as Superintendent here from 1920-1927. He described the depot as being “paved with a thick concrete surface about eight acres in extent. On this pavement to the rear had been constructed of concrete, a carpenter shop, metal working shop, machine shop, and on top, frame quarters for the master of the tender and District Foremen. The remaining open concrete area was given over to the storage of spare buoys and painting and maintenance of the same.” (Photo courtesy of Frederick P. Dillion III)
