In 1939, Frederick P. Dillon was ordered to report to the United States Coast Guard District Office for the Great Lakes located in Cleveland to be a temporary Chief of Staff assigned to help organize the consolidation efforts with the Lighthouse Service. While there, he met a number of former colleagues from the Detroit and Buffalo offices who had likewise accepted the new Coast Guard commissions. Frederick Dillon said that when all were attired in their new uniforms and “elegantly equipped, the lighthouse gang had a group picture taken for posterity.” Frederick Dillon is pictured second from the right.
