“A request soon came for me to appear at the Bureau of Lighthouses in Washington for an interview. I was able to demonstrate from my experience that I would be an asset to the Lighthouse Service and was engaged to report for duty in Charleston, March 16, 1911.” This photo was taken during that year, at age 27, as Frederick P.
