Before becoming the lighthouse keeper at Bear Island Lighthouse in 1936, Andrew H. Kennedy was a lighthouse keeper at Maine’s Boon Island Lighthouse from 1925 to 1928, Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse (Two Lights) from 1928 to 1929, and Great Duck Island Lighthouse from 1929 to 1936. After he was the lighthouse keeper at Bear Island Lighthouse, Andrew H. Kennedy served for many years as the Harbor Master of Northeast Harbor, Maine. In an average summer during his tenue as Harbor Master, some 3,000 yachts and power boats and a large number of lobster boats were moored in Northeast Harbor. Before he became a lighthouse keeper, Andrew H. Kennedy was with the U.S. Marine Corps and saw action in the Haiti Revolution, World War I, and World War II. Andrew H. Kennedy died in Bar Harbor on April 17, 1967 and was buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Northeast Harbor, Maine.
